I hear pirates are the new monkeys.

Pirates, zombies and monkeys - the trifecta.

Incidentally, to play cute little Playmobil-esque pirate guys, click here.

I tried to see this in NYC and it was sold out. These two are hot! Ahh if only it were gay porn. *sighs*

I'm looking forward to seeing this film now. At first, I wanted the console game, which supposedly was of much higher quality as it had nothing to do with the Disney license. Now that I've played the Bethesda nightmare, I want the movie, and I want the game buried in a landfill next to some ET cartridges.

Pirates *are* the new monkeys.
Scurvy Dogs
Issue #1 and #2 avaliable through Diamond now. Issue #3 coming in Sept from AiT/PlanetLAR

Dear heavens! My meme is a comic book!

andrew

I think that comic book is now a meme, but that's one of those "peanut butter/chocolate" debates that are rarley settled to anyone's satisfaction.
The SF Gaurdian did a front page spread on pirates some months ago whihc certianly helped disseminate the Scurvy Dogs tagline.

I also was surprised at just how good this flick was. One of the other things worth mentioning is how it defies the pacing of the conventional summer "explosions and CGI" flick--the action bits are shot efficiently, rapidly, and there's lots of time for fun dialogue and characterization--and at the same time, doesn't succumb to the windy self-importance that afflicted the Matrix sequel or The Hulk. The movie is mostly just about having fun in a genuine way, rather than the hardcore-pornish by-the-numbers structure of the usual summer blockbuster, which has become a kind of soulless ritual.

Read about real piracy on the high seas at the ICC Weekly Piracy Report.

I personally hold pirates in high reguard not only for its masterful blend of humor, action, and storyline (which I never really found too complicated), but also for the fact that it pumped me up more than I thought possible by a movie...I don't know about the rest of you, but I would take scurvey, mutiny, treachery, not bahing, and sunburn any day...well there goes THAT dream...
