I only ever saw Tech TV when it was the rotating freebie channel, or when I was in a hotel somewhere, because I will not will not will not pay for digital cable. But I liked what I saw, and with its demise I feel like I'm losing friends (especially since my boyfriend works across the street from the Tech TV office) and information. Tech news from L.A. instead of the Bay? Don't think so.

BTW, Comcast apparently gave up on Disney.

I gave up on TV about 1.5 years ago. After a period of shock I found that I had much more time to play the games that were gathering dust. And I even went outside (SHHHHHH, don't tell). Seriously, TV is usless except to bring me video games and DVDs, i.e. what I want, when I want it.

ryan

I originally stopped watching TV because any spare time for TV was then turned to video games. After my initial game craze evened out to more healthy levels (I had gotten a rather top of the line PC and next gen game consoles all at once) I began watching a lot of movies and such. Then thinking "Hey TV is kind of like movies right? Maybe I'll try that again"

So I tried watching TV again but Seinfeld was cancelled and I had little much else to watch besides the History channel. All the 'good' stuff had been replaced by reality TV. This hurt, a lot. If I want to watch stupid people in stupid situations I'll just go to some a mall or basically anywhere in public, people watching is a lot more entertaining anyway. Honestly, reality happens all around us every day, why the hell would we want to watch it on TV?

TV has pretty much dissappeared from my life now. We don't get Tech TV or any game related viewing in our cable so I have no idea of these things you speak. My TV is for consoles and DVDs.

Thanks for putting it up on your site Jane.

As an avid watcher of Tech TV (my dvr is full of almost exclusive Tech TV content, along with the Daily Show :)), I'm outraged at the announcement. G4 is mostly CRAP!

Hurray for giant media conglomerates!

5000!

>I'm giving up on TV. Except as a vehicle upon which
>to play games and watch DVDs.

Isn't that a bit premature? Why don't you want and see what exactly happens before writing it off.

>Tech news from L.A. instead of the Bay? Don't think so.

You keep holding on to that dream, sport.

Hey, TV isn't all bad.

I feel for Sessler... And that's about it.

The station started going down the crapper when they cut TSS back to an hour and started interviewing celebrities on it. The station lost it's focus and went from geek paradise to pseudo "E!" wannabe.

I dumped my subscription when they fired Pirillo. I feel sorry for a few of the on air people like Sessler, Morgan, Megan... Hell, even Patrick, but knowing that dipstick Sargent may be unemployed shows there is justice in the world...

And the less said about that crapweasel Laporte, the better. (The used car salesman of Tech TV...)

(If this is posted twice, it's because I messed up and said Megan when I meant Cat... D'OH!)

I try to stay away from TV, usually only putting on a movie in the background when I'm programming on my computer. As for shows I just Tivo things on Sunday (Sopranos and Fox Sunday) and watch them some time during the week.

The only show I liked on TechTV was XPlay. Scratch that LOVED XPlay. G4 had potential, but turned to be crap (except for Icons but then that went downhill). I just got everything I could've gotten from G4 with one show. XPlay was great because it wasn't some handpuppet of publishers. They gave it to you straight and they gave it to you funny. Getting an on-screen match up like Adam and Morgan is hard as hell to do. G4 tried but failed, hopefully they'll realize what the mistake that's been made because Morgan is a nerd goddess and Adam is too cool for school.

As far as the weekend - a little bit of working, some webdesign, some work on the robot, and meeting up with friends here and there. Why what are YOU doing this weekend Jane?

The cable company finally discovered that they weren't charging me for the free cable I was getting. Thus, I lost my cable about a year ago. I miss the occasional show (Daily Show, discovery, Samurai Jack), but for the most part that's all been replaced by PBS and the local library. Support your local library! A couple selections I've watched in the past few weeks:

Manchurain Candidate (Angela Lansbury is now, officially, 'the Shit' in my book)

Hell House (bizarre and fascinating documentary of rural Texans and their religious fetishism.)

Baines

I still watch TV, but I gave up on TechTV many months ago. There was just nothing on the channel worth watching anymore.

Extended Play went in the crapper when it switched to X-Play. Sessler went into sugar rush mode, Webb acted like she was afraid of Sessler and didn't care about the script she was reading from, the actual coverage was excised for lame jokes and skits, etc...

The Screen Savers went from having information to being...well...I'm not sure what it was trying to be... But it wasn't informative.

It was a bad sign when I started thinking the only worthwhile "tech" show were repeats of Max Headroom...

Being better than G4 doesn't actually mean "good" or even "passable." Sometimes a test pattern is better than G4, but I wouldn't want to watch a test pattern either.

BrainFromArous

Drood, I couldn't agree more about Leo.

As a gamer, this would bother me more if X-Play were actually worth watching. But it rarely is. Sessler himself is fine, but Morgan "Booth Babe" Webb and most of the show's writing are cringe-inducing.

We need a good gamer show. I just hope that, one day, we'll get one. X-Play sure as hell wasn't it.

Mike

I have to agree with Brain. I felt as if they never found a female counter-part to Adam. It's not that I hated Morgan or the others, but they felt forced. As if the producers went out of their way to find an attractive woman then told her to speak in Blockbuster Video Advertising's idea of videogames. I didn't want a hot girl telling me about games in narly and radical terms. I wanted anyone, vagina or know, who talked about games like a normal person would.

Ah, well. Tech TV was up there on my favorite channels. Here's hoping things work out for the best.

MikeH

I've really enjoyed Gamespot TV, I mean Extended Play, I mean X-Play and even drove to meet Adam and Kate at both their Michigan appearances with my infant daughter in 1999. The fact that they used Erik Wolpaw's review copy showed that they were all about the review (at least the funniest version of it) and not just being a marketing wing of the publishers. I was tepid to the rest of the station's shows (unless they had TMBG on) but from what I've seen of G4 on Comcast's digital preview I am gravely disappointed. Adam and Morgan, I hope they let you do what you excel at.

Drood

Kate Botello was a good foil for Sessler. I really liked her. Sessler himself is great too.

The big problem with Extended Play was when they went to every day. It got very repetitive. I never saw X-Play because by the time that started, I'd dumped the network. Morgan was entertaining as someone who popped up on TSS, but I doubt her ability to anchor a show.

Leo is, and will always be, a porn addicted weasel. (Noticed all the porn sites when his cookie list appeared on screen on TSS a couple of years back.) I felt REALLY sorry for Cat when she accidentally posted those nude pictures on the web. I can only imagine what that pervo did while looking at them...

Everything but Call for Help has apparently been picked up from Tech TV I think.

anonymous

I feel bad for what's happening at TechTV, but their demise is a sign of the times. People don't want to watch TV of marginal quality delivered by people they perceive as barely tolerable SF yuppie types. Unfortunately, their time has come.

Drood

The problem I have with TECH TV is not the quality. The problem was when it went from being a geek channel to this pseudo "E!" crap that they do now.

whoknows

My problem with Tech TV can't even be the quality, because i dont even get it anymore. It was totally deleted off Time Warner Cable, for the New York City area. Cable even says they dont know why it happened, anyone know?

MaskedJellybean

I'd say this is the end for TechTV. I've been banned from G4TechTV.com, so I guess the time has come and gone. Total suckage.
