Gamer Dating
It started two days ago when my friend sent me a link to a Boston craigslist personal ad, and then a few days later another friend found a whole website devoted to gamer dating. I've often been dubious of subculture-exclusive dating services, since I like having partners who can expand my horizons now and again, but I can't argue with the desire to find somebody who can get as excited about City of Heroes as me. But who has time for dating? I've just pulled off 5 straight 12-14 hour days, with slim chance of working less this Saturday and Sunday. Such are the sacrifices of living the game designer's life. Life is too short to make bad games, so I hope you like what we're all working so hard to make for you! Posted by ClockworkGrue at June 11, 2004 09:49 AM | TrackBackComments
I think it's a great idea! Think of it this way. I'm a guy. I'm also a game designer / programmer. Been doing it for 20 years now. There's a large percentage of women that think gaming is stupid, childish, for kids. There's also a large percentage of women that hate computers "oh, those damn computer things". A woman with either of those attitudes doesn't just hate games or computers but basically in essence hates my entire life and career. Would you really want to be with a partner like that? So, why not just screen them out in the first place? Sounds like a good idea to me. Just because we both like games and/or computers doesn't mean everything else is going to be the same but at least we respect some basic things about each other. We have been married a couple of years now and are soon expecting our first child. :) Sometimes love is found in unlikely places... Posted by: Harald Hansen on June 14, 2004 06:22 AMWrite me back in 20 years and we'll compare notes :-) Posted by: GMan on June 14, 2004 06:35 AMcity of heroes city of heroes city of heroes. It's everywhere. And i want it. Waiting for payday. I dont know why i felt the need to reply. Dating sites make me a little nervous. i find stalkers like internet, which is a terrible stereotype, but it comes from experience. I feel like if i were to go on one, i have failed socially somehow. But yet - i too work crazy hours, so how can i go out? Silly. that's my confession of the day. Posted by: robyn on June 17, 2004 03:17 PMIts funny, cause I have had the same opinion as robyn. I always held dating sites as like some benchmark, that I somehow had become so undatable that I would have to find someone on the internet. But dating sites are just like bars really. Mostly everyone goes to bars or clubs for one reason, to meet other people. Thats what dating sites are, except you actually have a chance to screen someone before they rub themselves all over you. :) Anyway, im off, thanks for mentioning us. :) Posted by: JevMan on July 7, 2004 11:16 PMSingle In There at http://www.theresingles.uni.cc is a great site too, I have seen others but, I like that one because it is geared toward gamers and not just a flesh dating sites taht prey on gamers.
