PS3 Arrival
A shiny PS3 arrived in the office today, and I played a little Resistance: Fall of Man for a few minutes. I have to say I'm not terribly impressed. It doesn't look that "next-gen", it's got lame loading times (the true next-gen will come when we can destroy loading times once and for all - or at least, disguise them cleverly), and it feels very same-old, smae-old - it has the brownish, through-a-dirty-glass look of Call of Duty and plays like it, too. I wasn't really paying much attention to the exposition but even that is sloppily done - cut-scenes and voice-overs. Ho hum. Am I just terribly, terribly jaded? finally there's someone out there who isn't looking at the PS3 and its games with rose tinted glasses. i've felt the same since i've seen the PS3 at E3, i know that the PS3 will sellout, probably due to low numbers, so sony can claim it was a complete sellout, the only thing is that 100,000 in japan, 500 in taiwan, or 400,000 in the US (even though i hear it only half of that is availble) at least nintendo did what they said they would do. (and micosoft to a lesser extent) thanks jane. Posted by: Paul on November 16, 2006 04:10 PM
boooooooooooring PS3. Tho we did have fun watching stolen (we are assuming) accts push ebay to 99 Million $ USD, and then back down to 89M$ for the win: http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-PLAYSTATION-3-CONSOLE-60GB-PS3-PREMIUM-FREE-S-H_W0QQitemZ230049396649QQihZ013QQcategoryZ62054QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I still want a Wii. No surprise to horrible launch games coming from a ps3 system. The same thing happened to the PS2. 1up show asked a good question to those in line actually buying the PS3 for entertainment (to the lines of: just what are you going to play?) The PS3's just starting slow, I'll probably pick one up when FF13 and MGS4 comes out. Posted by: karyu on November 19, 2006 02:20 PM

The only reason there was so much hype over Resistence is because it's from Insomniac & it was a launch title that was built from the ground up for the PS3. It's generic in pretty much every sense & it would be of no relevance if it had come out two or three years from now. That said, there was little else on PS3's launch day as far as good games were concerned. Pretty much everything else was a port of a 360 version. Posted by: darkchild82 on November 20, 2006 10:35 AM
"Next-gen" isn't magic. Get Resistence on a 1080P monitor, run it alongside Call of Duty on an old Sony Trinitron. Compare. That's the difference, and it's screamingly obvious. As for load times -- historically, load times have gotten worse for consoles with each generation. There were no load times for the Atari, the NES, the Genesis... Once we went from solid state storage to CD's with the PlayStation was when things started to chug. So if you're experiencing slow load times with the PS3... it's per next gen design. ;) Posted by: hikaru on November 20, 2006 04:31 PM
