Gaming in Car Commercials?
I never thought I'd really see it, but it's possible that the day has finally arrived that gaming has tangentially influenced a car commercial. I can't find the commercial on the web anywhere (or remember the company that made it evidently), but it seems there's a used car company commercial featuring 100 Mustangs flowing through the city streets on the way to a potential buyer's house. It seems like it was influenced directly from the 1K Project. (Which I'll just link here directly because I never get tired of watching it). It's certainly possible that the commercial director came up with the idea on his own (it's not the most original concept), but it just really has that 1K Project vibe. Thanks to Overload in Colorado in the comments for pointing out that the commercial in question is from Autotrader.com. The "making of" (which also contains the commercial at the end) for "Armada" can be found here. Posted by bowler at April 12, 2007 10:00 AM | TrackBackComments
Is your "finally" sarcastic? (I'm not trying to attack you, I really just couldn't tell from your tone.) Because I feel like I've seen plenty of video-game influenced car commercials. There's this Tetris themed one -- http://www.aeropause.com/archives/2006/09/the_german_tetr.php -- and I recall one that had a video game version of the car driving around in the real world (I can't remember what car company it was). Hmm... I'm not supporting my point very well, but it doesn't really seem like something new. But that's a cool video. Posted by: Fuzzy Gerdes on April 12, 2007 03:00 PM
Maybe this is not what you are thinking but there was a VW Golf or Jetta commercial with 4 actors claiming to be video game programmers. The game on their screen was Daytona. I guess the commercial was supposed to imply they get inspiration from driving their VW. It's a pretty old commercial, probably 8-10 years ago. Posted by: greggman on April 14, 2007 04:23 AM
