Beautiful Katamari
Namco announced a new, online multiplayer (yay!) Katamari: Beautiful Katamari. It seems a bit silly to tout next-gen graphics for this game, since graphics hardly matter - it's the art style and the whimsey and the music that matters most, of course. Still, the multiplayer aspect could be fun. And although Keita Takahashi, the original creator, is not part of the latest incarnation of the series, I think the Katamari model is not established and can be safely replicated by others. The only thing I worry a little about is the music. The Katamari music was so perfect; whoever puts the next soundtrack together has some big shoes to fill! I have two thoughts on touting graphics: 1) HiDef is nice even if the graphical wow of a game is more in the style than the detail of the assets. gimme that widescreen. 2) I've heard that the big thing they're going to be using the next gen graphics power for is making the scale of the game much, much larger, so think about TONS more stuff on the screen and on the katamari. And a Katamari 10 kilometers in diameter: "That's no moon... it's a Katamari!" Posted by: DannoHung on April 20, 2007 04:40 PM
they could tout next-gen graphics for Beautiful Katamari if the shadowing (is that a word ?) & the no. of items that could be picked could be drastically increased without a drop in frame rate. Also, the soundtrack to We Love Katamari is so much better than Katamari Damacy. just sayin'. Posted by: darkchild82 on April 24, 2007 11:33 AM
