Hardware Woes
So I'm settling in on a Saturday night for adventure with my homies Liara and Kaiden (who, we all agree, isn't half the man that Carth Onasi was and the ONLY reason I'm even pursuing romance with him is that it's the same voice and, yeah, I want the achievement) when what should happen but a gruesome grinding noise emanates from my 360 drive. I leap up in alarm and immediately extract the disc, only to find a perfectly circular scratch that now decorates my copy of Mass Effect. Who gets away with putting out hardware like this? Not to mention the fact that even without the grinding the thing is so fucking loud it gives me a slight headache every time I turn it on. So now I'm out one copy of Mass Effect and possibly out one console, too...! I'm scared to put anything in it. Well, I may play some puzzle fighter or something... but man, what a bummer! Damn, that *blows*. You should probably try and get a free repair anyhow. I think the disc grinder problem might also be under extended warranty. Posted by: DannoHung on December 22, 2007 09:55 PMThat totally sucks ... out of curiosity, what position do you have your 360 on, vertical or horizontal? I have mine horizontal, never liked to put CD-DVD readers in vertical position, you know "obey gravity" and such... Posted by: eevyl on December 23, 2007 01:15 AMI had the same thing happen to my copy of Rock Band on my brand new 360. Posted by: bzztbomb on December 23, 2007 11:38 AMMy 360 eventually grinds the hell out of every disc I put in it. Luckily it can still read them (sometimes with difficulty). As for Mass Effect I beat it in a marathon session and then let a work mate borrow it over Christmas. He let me borrow Uncharted. God what a mistake. A second play through of Mass Effect sounds really good right now. Posted by: Ham on December 23, 2007 08:04 PMI've gone through 2 copies of Rock Band. Posted by: countingdaisies on December 24, 2007 08:39 PMThat really sucks Jane. Maybe now you have an excuse to pick up a elite 360. I hear the elites are more reliable. Posted by: PotatoHead on December 24, 2007 10:43 PMreally? i was thinking of getting the elite. are they actually better? Posted by: jane on December 25, 2007 09:59 AMMy disc grinder is an Elite. I *think* I knocked it a little bit while plugging a guitar in. I've changed it to be horizontal position now in hopes of it being less finicky in the future. I used one of those fancy cd disc repair gadgets and was able to fix my disc. You may want to give that a shot? (It took quite a few runs (20?) for it to actually work).
